Livelihood Enhancement And Protection

LEP Livelihood Enhancement & Protection is a project funded by PPAF Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund. Ultra and vulnerable poor people of the community are selected through scientific poverty score card survey recommended by the World Bank .These ultra and vulnerable poor people are also trained in different skills for the establishment of their own small scale business; so that they could get their own l livelihood through levelheaded earnings. ADO in collaboration with PPAF has provided different assets to the ultra and vulnerable poor for the sustainability of their own livelihood. Provision of these assets was ensured in the first Phase and one union council Jaman Shah was selected, and now three more union councils are selected for this project

Project Objectives and Approaches

The objective of project is to develop the capacity, opportunities, assets and productivity of community to reduce their vulnerability to shocks, improve their livelihoods initiatives strengthen their business operations by mapping and need assessments of livelihood related skills, knowledge and practices in union council Jaman Shah.Keeping in view of project objectives and miserable condition of communities in UC Jaman Shah (Dist. Layyah).

Target Area

Livelihood interventions made in the areas identified as target areas for ADO supposed to work in their existing villages and union councils, which have been organized into Community institutions and benefited from planned interventions. Priority given to the poorest U/Cs Jamon shah,Sarishta thal,Ladhana,Chok Azam ruralLayyah thal jandiof District Layyah to poverty stricken areas, especially ADO existing areas of interventions where social mobilization project has strong roots.

The Poverty score card:

At the very beginning an identification survey has been conducted. 1859 households were door to door visited by the field teams. The prime objective of the survey is to identify Ultra and Vulnerable Poor through Poverty Score Card (PSC) around the Union Council Jaman shah. Finally 1859 households were passed through a filtration process and 255 ultra and559 vulnerable poor households were selected for various interventions. After filtration of beneficiaries households Livelihood Investment Plans (LIPs) were prepared for991 households.

Formation of Common Interest Group CIG:

After successfully completion of Poverty score card and Livelihood Investment Plan (LIP). ADO field team formed common interest groups at village level toorganize the people which have same interest. Overall 37 CIGs formed in union council Jaman shah.
